Ok, get back on the phone to the chap he bought it from.
Ask Exactly when it started doing it and most important. What did he do to try and fix it.
Never assume the job was done straight away. It is possible that there is a blockage in either the inlet or exhaust side of the fuel system. Start at the air filter box and work right through to the exhaust.
I once bought a bike that did exactly this and after seval calls to previous owners, none of which had got it running. It turned out that it had originaly stopped after being stored over winter.
After a complete strip it turned out to be a mouse (very, very dead)Stuck up the baffles.
